10 years ago today we said goodbye to my Mom. She was a very special lady and taught me a lot of things without even trying! She had a lot of patience with me and seemingly never gave up although I am sure she felt like it at times.
Mom had cancer, and lived 9 months after she found out for sure that it was cancer. She had a lot of pain as she suffered the last month or so of her life.
We are 10 children so we all took turns being there with Mom at that time we lived in Belize and I traveled back tot he states in September 2002 to be with mom for a month with James and Mary.
GOD prepares you for what is coming and seems like yesterday we'd go for walks hoping exercise would help, Mom lost weight, but by the time she found out it was too late to treat the cancer.
She decided not to do the recommended surgery, or Chemotherapy, and took some natural medicines, but soon saw that wasn't helping either.
I don't know if she felt scared she never told us that she was. She was strong to the end! She loved playing cards and rummicube and different games with the grandchildren. So we spent many hours playing games and eating her favorite foods with her!
She was on hospice care for the last month of her life, and on the strongest pain meds they could give her. Mom never complained, always loved us, and as the end drew near, she faced death with such grace, looking it right in the face, unafraid because she knew she'd be home with JESUS very soon!
This picture was taken of Mom and Dad in 2001, they came to visit us here in Costa Rica, while we studied Spanish! She loved the flowers and birds of Costa Rica! Funny story, this was their first flight, so they were unprepared for all the different things. They asked as they got off the first flight where to go for th next gate, so the attendant sent them to the gate. As they waited they started to call for San Jose California! So Dad went to ask what time their flight was! The lady told them it was the wrong gate, they held the plane for them as they ran to the next gate. The plane was full and only 2 seats on first class were empty, they gave those to them without a charge! So when they got off the plane they were telling us about it, an Mom said, "they even gave us icecream" (One of her favorite foods!) and as we asked questions we realized they had been bumped up to first class!
What a blessing! GOD is so good!
